Welcome to Understanding
Systems Development and Process Improvement
Well done - you are now taking your first step on your journey into understanding the concepts and principles of systems development and process improvement.
I'm Glenn Taylor - your facilitator for this course. As a generalist management consultant and business coach, I cover the full range of business topics and have worked with hundreds of businesses over the past 25+ years. By way of getting to know me better, below is a short video of a presentation at a joint function held, by The Advanced Manufacturing Group and Engine Room Business Innovation, at The University of Western Australia - the topic I presented on was the growing emergence and importance of Servitisation in advanced manufacturing.
Another example of the range of coaching that I am involved with is shown in the photo below. This was taken during an Innovation Tour run by Engine Room Business Innovation and hosted by Wirtgen Group. I'm running a 'Power Hour' on the topic of Analysis of Time - here I am taking business leaders through an Engine Room tool that enables them to gain insights on how they can more effectively use their time.
I come to the topic of systems development and process improvement, not from a narrow technical perspective, but from a broad business growth perspective.
From my experience, the topic of systems development and process improvement is one of the most important of all business topics for growing a sustainable business - as it supports the strengthening of all the business areas/topics.
Whether it be a financial issue, human resources issue, marketing issue or any other issue; systems thinking and continuous improvement principles will be needed to deal with the issues comprehensively - in a manner that addresses the 'root cause', and takes the business area to a whole new level.
This module provides an extensive understanding of the concepts associated with systems development and process improvement.
Although the first of a 3 module course, it can also be viewed as a stand alone 'program' for:
- educating individuals of the key concepts, or
- training of all staff within a business to gain a common understanding of the key concepts.
Using this module to obtain a shared understanding from all staff, should greatly assist with the development and implementation of systems throughout the business.
If you want to apply the concepts covered in this module, in a very practical manner, then continuation with the course is the answer.
As Modules 2 & 3 then provide the methodology, tips and tools to apply the concepts covered in Module 1:
- Module 2 - Designing Structure and Building Systems.
- Module 3 - Implementing and Improving Systems.
On behalf of Engine Room, well done for undertaking this course, and we wish you all the best in your journey associated with systems development and process improvement.
